You will find, like we did, that what follows this is more words like ‘…is the UK’s BEST Wedding Photographer’. Yes, I know, ‘BEST’ does quickly grab your attention which is closely followed by a thought of ‘yeah that’s what they all say…’ but the beauty of the internet is that there’s always the ‘back’ button right? So click the link and you will find that the only buttons you will need are ‘next album’, ‘contact’ and ‘add to favourites’.
Jon Mold’s portfolio will find you naturally expanding on your bank of adjectives from just ‘BEST’ because as they say a picture paints a thousand words…and what speaks clearer for a photographer’s skills than their photos of course. We really were taken on a journey and felt like we were a part of every wedding and event on his page; each one engaging us with the emotions and originality of what a wedding should show…those thousand words had indeed left us speechless!
As you can imagine our next obvious step was to email Jon with what we thought was too much to ask for with a plan that was too last minute (in two months) for a destination wedding in Italy…and did we mention that we also wanted him to travel with us for 3 DAYS with our family and us? (in hindsight we’d like to book him permanently… and this is coming from two people and a family who did not previously really feel comfortable having our photos taken!) Jon was really prompt in replying to us and we could instantly tell that he shared our excitement for the trip and cared about our needs by getting to know us. He worked around world time differences and made it very easy to organise all aspects of our adventure. If you’re planning a wedding I know you will appreciate these qualities in Jon a LOT – because it is stressful, there are lots of details to consider and there are always unexpected changes. And our “casual” destination wedding was no different for us! It opened up a whole other can of worms with planning. But again, Jon made this easy and could relate to us having had his own destination wedding as well as experience in photographing others. So a few emails and a Skype date later before we knew it we were meeting Jon and his just as amazing assistant Jason Prezant in Valeggio sul mincio, Italy …
Jon and Jason really make an effort to get to know you personally and they do it so quickly that you’re left feeling like you’ve known them for years in a few minutes. Ultimately, to have good photos you need to have someone who captures the real you, so they need to make you feel comfortable. Really, what you want from a photographer is for them to capture YOUR day perfectly – that doesn’t mean taking the standard shots you see on every other wedding website (even though I secretly would love to be the people in every single one of his photos online). So Jon and Jason came down to meet us before the official 3 days had even started to scope out the location and meet us. Before we knew it (ninja style) he was taking photos, which was perfect because we were just relaxing with our friends and then off to dinner.
Our whole idea of having a small wedding overseas was to spend time with our close family and friends and so we wanted to capture this and have photos from the whole experience and excitement leading up to the wedding as well. It worked out perfectly that we had two photographers as well because this meant they could split themselves and swap between being with the guys or the girls when they needed to so that nothing was missed. They were also open to us making suggestions and very good at bouncing off each other’s ideas – even if their ideas landed Jon in water. Literally, the angle Jon HAD to have of us sitting on a wharf meant he didn’t even need to think twice about walking waist deep into the freezing river to take it – how many photographers would do that for you!
The wedding day/night ran so smoothly that before we knew it we were heading into Day 2. We sadly said Ciao to the secluded garden and headed for the more touristy highlights of Venice for some shots (any excuse to wear the wedding dress again! Right?). This was a long day driving 2 hours after breakfast, then purposely (as you do) getting lost in the alley ways and canals which left us not getting into bed until after 11pm in Tuscany that night. But Jon remained as patient and yet as quick as ever. It was like seeing a kid in a candy store where he had so many original and new ideas to fit in! He was always on the move looking for the best angle, colours, lighting… and would consider the finest details of a tiny building in the background being symmetrical with another object while Jason was always right there to ensure the lighting also made you a star in the photo.
And their professionalism really did convince everyone else in Venice that we were stars as well – we have made it into other peoples photo albums and phone galleries, as well as have been congratulated, asked to write notes for people saying ‘I love you’, even touched for good luck. This is no word of a lie…Jon and Jason of course have photographic evidence of this journey and all the memories! Day 3 was no different, the Tuscan hills bought out the panoramic photos that I can’t wait to put up on my wall at home and some much needed relaxation time doing a cooking class with our family on our last day together. We loved Jon and Jason’s enthusiasm in uplifting everyone even when we were tired after some really big days – they were the perfect personalities to have along for a big trip!
Jon and Jason work in stealth mode, bouncing off each other and capturing every moment without even really knowing they were there! Yet at the same time they interacted with the group as family and friends which put everyone at complete ease to be themselves. Jon really did make our whole trip memorable by being fun, enthusiastic and generally a nice person. We were able to enjoy the overall experience more and be in the moment knowing and fully trusting that Jon and Jason had taken photos for us of not just us and our family but of the accommodation, the views, the food, the shops… everything! So he isn’t the ‘UK’s’ BEST’, he is ‘Italy’s BEST’ as well now and if you’re lucky enough you’ll see him be ‘Spain’s BEST’ or ‘Greece’s BEST’ for your weddings, events and or holidays…I hope more people in the world get to meet and experience Jon Mold and his love of photography.”
