Toronto + Liverpool = Cayo Leventado Wedding!!
In other words, Janice & James got wed in paradise, that’s it in a nut shell. I joined them for 3 days on the Gran Bahia Principe resort on the Cayo Leventado island. If you missed the background to this story you need to check out their engagement session which was blogged end of Jan 2014.
Janice and James got in touch with me about 6 months ago. They had been searching for a suitable photographer to document their wedding and out of 80 websites trawled through, I was the lucky one 🙂
I have been waiting for this wedding, literally buzzing with excitement for months. I met Janice and James at Toronto airport along with 20+ friends and family ready for the flight to Samana in Dominican Republic. They immediately welcomed me into their group and I just knew this was going to be an incredible 3 days.
The wedding was just too big to blog all in one go, so this is part one, enjoy.
The day of the wedding.
“See you at the pool at 8am for morning yoga Jon” was the last thing I heard Monday night. So over to the east side of the island I went and met all the ladies there. Lori is a trained yoga teacher and soon got everyone stretched out and relaxed. She even incorporated a head massage for Janice, what an awesome friend.
The bridal suite was amazing, just the most incredible view out over the island. The atmosphere in there was so calm, relaxed and full of laughter. Champagne flowing, hair being plated, nails painted, tears of joy being shed, stories current and old being shared.
The lads on the other hand were down on the beach playing volleyball. I must say I was impressed, there were obviously some talented players in the mix and it was pretty dangerous photographing the game with arms and legs flying all over the place.
To the ceremony.
Janice was whisked off to the ceremony to meet her husband on a pimped out golf cart. This thing was massive, seats for 9 including a photographer, bonus!
She looked radiant in her dress as did all the bridesmaid, all styled by Janice. So much thought had gone into each outfit, she knows her friends well.
James was waiting on the terrace, calm and ready, he walked past family and friend on his mothers arm, a wonderful moment.
Janice’s turn, on her fathers arm she looked amazing. The service was short and perfect, these guys were the real deal, totally into each other and a joy to whitness.
That’s it for part 1. Part 2 coming later in the week so please be on the look out. The rest of the ceremony, cocktail hour, portraits on the beach, speeches, epic dancing and a midnight lantern launch out over the sea.

Great work as always Jon. Looks like a real tough gig…. 🙂
Thanks Andy – very tough 😉 Actually it was – running around the resort with all my gear, a 16 hour day. Plus being in paradise the expectations and pressure I put on myself to deliver something over and above made it very tough. But I would do it all over again, it was an absolute pleasure 🙂
They must have had an unforgettable time, I just love the ordinaryness (ok it’s not a real word) of these that have made them into astonishing pics, really makes me want to get married again with Jon as our photographer!!
Hey Dawn – thanks for the comment – of course you can renew your wedding vows 🙂
Cool work Jon. Like all the build up before on the beach and the morning prep. Looks like awesome fun for all, and a great bunch of people.
