Lake Como in northern Italy…wow! Just…wow!
It’s hard to put into words the sheer beauty that is this stunning out-of-this-world wedding location. Which is why it’s not surprising that I have had a few enquiries to be a Lake Como wedding photographer for couples preparing to tie the knot…and I could not be more grateful.

Spending time as a Lake Como Wedding Photographer is always a breath of fresh air, being there on Lake Como is good for the soul. The backdrop of this gorgeous location makes for an exquisite photography, be it for a wedding or simply for its natural beauty.
Lake Como Weddings.
Over the past 10 years, I have been lucky enough to have photographed a number of weddings in Lake Como. Lake Como weddings are always amazing, some of my fondest memories are from Krystina and Phil’s magical Villa Carlotta wedding. Like many destination weddings, Krystina and Phil celebrated their wedding over three days.
Pre-wedding celebrations in Lake Como.
They had a pre-wedding drinks reception the day before their wedding in the charming Ristorante Belle Isole, there are lots of bars and restaurants happy to host.
Post-wedding celebrations in Lake Como.
Krystina & Phil had a relaxing post wedding lunch celebration the day after their wedding at the stunning Grand Hotel Cadenabbia. One of my favourite post-wedding venues was at Lido Lenno, it’s beach and relaxing chairs and quiet music is a perfect venue for a chilled post wedding celebration. It’s a unique venue in Lake Como as it’s one of the few restaurants on a beach on the lake. Beside the restaurant there is an area with beach huts and loungers, perfect for a relaxing post wedding celebration.
Hiring the best Lake Como wedding photographer.
Here’s what Krystina and Phil had to say about my work,
“Jon makes you feel at ease, as if he is not even in the room when he is taking photographs, his relaxed attitude and like ability is infectious, his work speaks for itself, the natural photographs he takes represents his personality.
We cannot thank Jon enough for everything he has done and how he made our day so special, he will forever be a friend to us and I just need to find more excuses to hire him again and again!”
Lake Como Wedding Tips.
Having photographed a number of Lake Como weddings, I’ve got to know the destination well. Here’s a few things I’ve learned as a Lake Wedding Photography that you may find useful if you are planning your own Lake Como Wedding;
- Late Spring is a lovely time of year to get married in lake Como when the rhododendrons and azaleas are in full bloom. It’s also not too hot and less busy.
- When booking your Lake Como accommodation don’t feel like you have to stay Lake side as some of the most beautiful views of the lakes can be experienced for the hotels further up in the hillside such as Tremezzo Residence.
- Most of the Lake Como Weddings I have photographed have worked with a Lake Como Wedding Planning, Macro from Romeo and Juliet and The Lake Como Wedding Planner have been a pleasure to work with.
- During the summer months, avoid having your wedding ceremony between 1-3pm when the light is at its harshest, you’ll be hot and squinting in all your photos! If you are planning an outdoor summer ceremony, an ideal time is 2 hours before sunset which is typically just before 9pm during mid summer. However, many venues have covered terraces or are shaded by the mountains but we can discuss all this during your free consultation.
- The best way to experience Lake Como is from the water. Many couples like to spend time on the Lakes as part of their wedding day. Venetian taxi’s are the perfect way to get between the ceremony & reception if they are in different locations.
- A word of warning about driving in Lake Como, the roads are extremely narrow and parking is almost impossible. One wrong turn off the main street could land you in someone’s backyard! Once you are aware of the challenges of driving on Italian roads you should be fine if you plan your journey. Find out beforehand where the public car-parks are and allow plenty of time. I’ve experienced been stuck for 20 minutes behind two large tourist buses on the extremely narrow Via Statale road when the drivers argue about who will give right-of-way! Luckily I planned ahead and got my assistant to park the car whilst I walked to the venue in plenty of time.
- Taxi’s are available in Lake Como but availability can be a bit of a lottery so the best bet is to get your hotel to book one in advance and allow plenty of time.
- Lake Como is famous for its Gelato. My personal favourite is from La Fabbrica del Gelato. Please don’t leave Lake Como without trying the Gelato!
